Training & Outreach

CEI provides training and out-reach literacy services:


  • Carole teaching.Teacher Training - Teaching one-on-one and in classes, the Institute will cooperate with businesses, neighborhood centers, medical facilities, adult education programs, prisons, juvenile authorities, technical schools, colleges and school systems.
  • Direct Services - When teacher training is not an option, CEI will provide instructors to help urban learners (children and adults) improve their basic skills.
  • Management Services - The Institute staff will provide management services to ensure the continuing quality of teaching Institute programs. Program management, regular review in the field, and continuing education are important to Institute literacy objectives.
  • Testing Services - Qualified educators and psychologists will administer the Institute literacy and skill tests. Often individuals with learning disabilities are tested orally. Special training and testing techniques are employed to produce usable test results.
  • Resources - The resource center provides national and local literacy and educational information.
  • Texts and Manuals - CEI distributes texts, manuals and implementation kits for use by teachers and trainers in the field. This includes proprietary publications and other recommended materials.
  • Research - CEI seeks funding for special research projects designed to improve the understanding of learning disabilities, how they occur, and solutions. When funds are available from the CEI, specific research projects may be commissioned directly. CEI provides a clearinghouse for researchers and funding sources.
